If you have a broadband modem or one that is supplied from your internet service provider (ISP) you can most probably  connect two computers  to it without needing a router. If you look at the picture of my modem below, it has a USB (blue) and a ETHERNET (yellow) port. You will usually here a sound when the device is plugged into the USB port on your computer. You will also have to turn the power button on for the camera. A computer cannot recognize it unless the power is on the camera.
